I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be part of the exceptional lineup of speakers at the Ateneo de Davao University edition of this year’s Software Freedom Day 2011.

Software Freedom Day will happen on a Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the 6th Floor of the Finster Hall, at the Ateneo de Davao University’s Computer Studies Division. SFD is a celebration of free and open source software (foss) which is simultaneously going on all over the world.

It’s nothing new for me to talk during Software Freedom Day, more so, talk about WordPress. This is going to be my 3rd session about my favorite blogging tool in the span of 4 years (I missed SFD 2010)

Anyway, I’m very happy to tell you that I’ll be giving away a decent number of domain names during my talk… add to that 1 year hosting courtesy of my kind hosting provider, too.

One thing that makes me feel a bit tensed and confused though is that I’m not sure what kind of people I’ll have to engage with.. Will it be those geeks who already know most about WordPress? Bloggers who started at BlogSpot? People interested in getting started with WordPress?

It’s really hard to figure that one out before I have them before me. That’s why I broadened the scope of my 1 hour slot to talk not only about the basics of WordPress but to extend beyond the out of the box functions.

WordPress Basics and Beyond – Student Blogger Edition

I have the gut feel that I’m surely not the only one who opted to name his talk like such, but I see no better fit to it. This is what I plan to cover during my talk at the Ateneo de Davao University:

WordPress Fundamental

Background of WordPress

Looking back at 2.x – 3.1

Note: Final presentation flow may be different subject to no prior notice. It looks like a heck long talk for an hour, but most of them are just one slide – one liners. Especially the one in the WordPress beyond section.

I doubt many of you know me… I’m Georg Kevin. The blogger behind this blog, which is already a given, and also the blogger behind pinoyteens.net. I started blogging when I was a High School student… I started buying/selling domains at the age of 15 and was pretty much exposed to SEO, Monetization and stuff like that at that age, too.

Some say that I’ve achieved a lot of things with my blogs. Others would consider my achievements as lame. Some say they envy me for all the mountains that I was able to move with my blogs, others consider them crap. I don’t care. I’m back, and that’s what matters for me now.

Pinoy Teens has finally become a PR4 blog… I don’t know for how long it’ll stay that way, but rest assured I’ll make use of that domain again.

I’ve been in a state of hibernation for the past 18 months… a lot has changed since then. The blogging community boomed, not only here in the Philippines but abroad as well. People who have sticked to their blogs during my period of hibernation have quality blogs that are fierce competition when it comes to SERPs.. I wonder how I get to bounce back.

That’s not the only thing that I worry about. I also need to worry about back links and all the other stuff. I have a pretty good feeling about all of these though.

Last but not the least I hope that the people around me, in my local blogging community and the ones on Facebook and Google+ are going to support me with my comeback. I feel a bit disappointed that blogging wasn’t that well known during the peak of my blogging a few years back. I hope to repeat the success that I had before… and hope to do even better than that, now that blogging has slowly found its way into the mainstream.

There are those people who I can’t really come to understand and agree with, but I hope that it’ll change now. I’ll be more open to the people on which doors I’ve closed and want to befriend as many people as possible in the Blogosphere.

There’s so much to do and so much to think about… Yet the most important thing to remember throughout the course of my comeback to the blogging world would be…

Blog not for the money, but for the
thank you's
that you get from your readers. It’s more fulfilling than a 500 Adsense Payment – and sometimes even tearjerking.

Why? Well, I’ll tell you more about it in future post!

I’ve been there. I saw it. And now, I’ll return; it’s HELLO to a totally new blogging WORLD indeed
